Fluid Beginnings is a course directed at handling newborns
0-6 months in water or those working with babies such as midwives,
aquatic specialists or craniosacral therapists. Breastfeeding mother,
father and baby are encouraged to participate along with the above
professionals. Individual Watsu , WaterDance and CranioSacral Therapy
sessions are integrated into the workshop for parents and baby.
However the infants experience in water is the focus.
Students learn to journey through the material described in the book Fluid Beginnings. Time alone is just as important as time in the group. The teaching style combines active and passive movements assisting students in a new perspective in handling infants as energetic, spiritual and physical beings. This water experience also focuses on the family unit and may be both a one time retreat type experience or it can become a routine in daily life. A follow up can be after a period of time and can help to reinforce what you have learned.
Video footage of Kia's water work is discussed. Some video footage is taken while the group is working and also discussed. Reading the book is recommended before coming to class. Pre Requisite is Prenatal Journey or intructor permission. This class fulfills 40 hours.

The physical development of the infant using the three respirations. The importance of monitoring all these systems while working with the infant in water is to remain completely attuned to their responses. Sometimes the changes happen on very subtle levels and you need to be alert, relaxed and focused. These themes will be explored through hands on, video, discussion, and experiential exercises on land and in the water. Release connective tissue using a variety of bodywork techniques, for the infant, primarily Craniosacral therapy on land and in water along with yoga techniques. Watsu & Wassertanzen along with meditation and Qi Gong are mostly used with the parents. Using the internal arts to emulate the developmental movements. Breathwork is explored as are the unique advantages of infant anatomy, connective tissue, bone structure and laryngeal anatomy. The Dive reflex is used for underwater work, observe rather than do. The aquatic rebounder is practised in water and on land. Holding positions are practsied as are yoga positions while breastfeeding in water and on land. Developmental movement is observed as are sensory and auditory responses. Quietly listen to the cranial-sacral while holding your baby in water. At opportune moments support a sleeping baby in water. On land when the opportunity presents itself we will explore moving in and out of a baby yoga session.
At anytime you feel you may excuse yourself from the group and spend some time quietly by yourself.
