This profound workshop begins with a look at the impact a history of childhood sexual abuse may have on the mother, her pregnancy, her labor and birth, and the postpartum period. The relationship between the woman and her caregiver is explored. What are the trust issues, power differential, the downward spiral and how to avoid it? Components of Penny's "Birth Counseling for Sexual Abuse Survivors" will be used in the experiential part of this workshop. It will include how to create a safe space, homework for the client, and the win-win birth plan. After the demonstration of an interview case, participants will practice the techniques of determining triggers, giving and getting feedback and other strategies.
