A Breech In The System

A BREECH IN THE SYSTEM. A woman wants to give birth to her breech baby in a hospital. They say she has to have a caesarean section. This is an inspiring documentary about her to attempt to birth naturally against all odds.

Karin Ecker’s interest in social issues has brought her international credits for her filmmaking plus photographic art. From filming European children exploring environmental issues in the Bahamas to physically handicapped people scuba diving in the Egyptian Sea, she now brings her lens to the issue of childbirth choices in Australia.
She intends to use this film as a tool to support the voice of ‘woman’.

A Doula Story

A Doula Story is a tribute to the doulas who work in a poverty-stricken West Chicago neighborhood, and a moving portrait of one doula in particular, Loretha Weisinger, who instructs the girls in her care with an easy straightforwardness and an open heart. As Loretha goes about her day, she prepares the girls for labor, assists them in delivery, and makes postnatal visits to help them bond with their newborns.

Birth as We Know It

If you are ever planning to birth a baby, or are working as a doula, midwife, or women's health instructor, I HIGHLY recommend getting this DVD. It is now available in a full-length feature film (wonderful!) and a shorter instructor's version for use in classrooms. It is BY FAR the best birthing DVD I have ever seen. If you have been disillusioned by "Baby Story" episodes on television, or horrified at terrible hospital-room birthing stories your mother, friends, or the media tell - get this! It will empower you with real, factual, and beautiful knowledge of birthing and your body's amazing natural power and abilities. There are 11 natural births featured within, as well as many other extras on topics such as lotus birth, diaper freedom, circumcision, etc. It is THEE BEST money I have ever spent on a DVD or Birthing Information.

Birth Day with Naoli Vinaver Lopez

This video is completely delightful. It is full of deep and moving insight, and gives food for thought about so much. This family has invited us into their lives for an intimate and beautiful moment that most people never even get to see in their own families. Birth is a wonderous and beautiful thing to behold, and this video introduces it that way. I would recommend this to people who not ever have witnessed natural (or any) birth and as well as to those who have.
As a childbirth educator, this video is a must for normalizing the healthy, natural birth process. As a mother, this video was integral for preparing my family and myself for my second birth! I watched this video weekly with my two and half year old son ( I cry every time I see it!) as preparation for my homebirth.

Birth Markings

A new 19 minute documentary about how giving birth transforms our bodies. The film reframes and destabilizes the observer's reaction to the changes in a woman's body after she's given birth. The Film refocuses on the dynamism and lives experiences rather than the commodified image. Women talk with ambivalence, humor and love about the scars, marks and stretched skin that brands them as mothers. Film By Margaret Lazarus, , 2011 release

Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin and the Farm Midwives (2013)

The feature-length documentary BIRTH STORY: Ina May Gaskin and The Farm Midwives tells the story of counterculture heroine Ina May Gaskin and her spirited friends, who began delivering each other's babies in 1970, on a caravan of hippie school buses, headed to a patch of rural Tennessee land. With Ina May as their leader, the women taught themselves midwifery from the ground up, and, with their families, founded an entirely communal, agricultural society called The Farm. They grew their own food, built their own houses, published their own books, and, as word of their social experiment spread, created a model of care for women and babies that changed a generation's approach to childbirth. Forty years ago Ina May led the charge away from isolated hospital birthing rooms, where husbands were not allowed and mandatory forceps deliveries were the norm. Today, as nearly one third of all US babies are born via C-section, she fights to preserve her community's hard-won knowledge. With incredible access to the midwives' archival video collection, the film not only captures the unique sisterhood at The Farm Clinic-from its heyday into the present-but shows childbirth the way most people have never seen it-unadorned, unabashed, and awe-inspiring. Includes special features: Bonus scenes, Radio Q&As with the filmmakers and more.

Comfort Measures for Childbirth

By Penny Simkin

This completely new DVD replaces the VHS version previously available from Penny Simkin. The 91-minute DVD is divided into 4 sections: 1) Basic relaxation and rhythmic breathing, 2) Comfort measures, devices, and positions, 3) Techniques to help with back pain and labor progress, and 4) Positions and techniques for pushing and birth. The detailed interactive menu allows you to choose exactly what you want to watch -- the entire DVD, a single section, or even a single comfort measure to learn or review.

These techniques, along with a helpful, confident partner and/or doula, are the tools you need if you wish to labor without medication or to postpone an epidural until active labor. Comfort Measures is perfect for expecting parents, childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, doctors, and for students in nursing, midwifery and medical school.
